Joseph DioGuardi, an accountant and former Republican congressman, yesterday launched his run for the U.S. senate seat held by Kristin Gillibrand in Grand Central station.

DioGuardi, who enters a crowded list of potential GOP candidates, spent 22 years of his professional life in an international accounting firm, and four years in the U.S. Congress. He is the founder of the Truth of Government, a non-profit organization designed to improve federal accounting and financial management practices. He is also the author of “Unaccountable Congress: It Doesn’t Add Up.”

DioGuardi espouses term limits and a balanced budget amendment.

“Today, the economic sustainability of this nation is at critical crossroads,” he said on the east balcony of the teeming terminal. “The direction we choose will change the course of America’s history. As a New York senator, I would stand up for the common sense economic and fiscal policies that would bring jobs to New York and put America back on the right track.”

DioGuardi is shopping for endorsements from the Conservative, Republican, and Independent party. “No one is taking Joe DioGuardi out of this race,” he said. “I’m going to get those endorsements…”

DioGuardi is the father of Kara, a well known judge on “American Idol” and music producer.
